Received a letter from HMRC? Speak to us before you reply.

You do not have to face HMRC alone. We act as your authorised agent and deal with HMRC on your behalf, from aspect enquiries and VAT or PAYE checks to Code of Practice 8 and 9 investigations and disclosures.

    What to do first

    1. Read the letter carefully and note the HMRC reference number, the officer’s name and the response deadline.
    2. Do not respond to HMRC directly yet. Wait until you have professional advice.
    3. Do not ignore the letter. There are strict deadlines, and ignoring HMRC makes the situation significantly worse.
    4. Gather relevant records. The letter usually specifies what HMRC wants to see.
    5. Contact IB&Co today.

Time limits for response are often very short. Email hello@ibandco.co.uk (subject “URGENT: HMRC”) or call 020 7164 0225.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the Discovery & Scoping Call confidential?

Yes. It is a confidential conversation focused on your circumstances, subject to our professional and legal obligations.

Who is the call suitable for?

Business owners, company directors, contractors, individuals, property owners and landlords, expats and international professionals who want to plan before an important decision.

Can existing IB&Co clients use this?

Yes. Existing and previous clients are welcome to use the review to discuss new priorities or changes in their circumstances.

Will I get tax advice on the call?

The call is for understanding and scoping. Where detailed tax advice is required, we explain the recommended next steps and engagement process. For focused guidance on one question, our 30-minute tax advisory session is designed for that.

    How are fees agreed?

We quote after the Discovery & Scoping Call, once we understand what you need.

Do I need tax advice if my accountant already files my returns?

Not always, but it can help. Filing a return reports what has already happened. Tax advisory looks at important decisions before you make them, while there may still be room to plan. Our Tax Advisory service is designed to complement your existing accounting and compliance work.

Don’t wait for the deadline to start the conversation.

A proactive conversation today could provide greater clarity before your next important financial decision.
