Tax Registration with HMRC

Self Assessment

HMRC uses its data to identify income that hasn’t been declared, and can charge penalties and interest when it finds it. If something has gone wrong, it’s usually better to tell HMRC before it contacts you. We can help you do that.

We take the time to understand your business, so we can explain your position clearly to HMRC.

Our advice is to plan ahead and keep good records, so you understand your position and your options.

When you start working for yourself, you must register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you started. If you register late and owe tax, HMRC can charge a penalty based on the tax paid late, as well as interest. We can register you.

Tax Investigations

Tax investigations can be a burden on anyone and it is very important to employ the services of a professional to assist in dealing with the HMRC and sort out any issues which may arise. At IB&Co Accountants we offer an experienced team of professionals. If HMRC asks to meet you, talk to us first. We can attend with you or deal with HMRC for you.

For example, if you started working for yourself between 6 April 2026 and 5 April 2027, you must register by 5 October 2027. It’s best to register as soon as you start.

Registering with the HMRC

We can register you as self-employed (a sole trader) with HMRC. It’s quick once we have your details, and we’ll explain what happens next. We make the entire process of registering as self-employed as simple as possible for you. We will be in touch afterwards to give you one-to-one professional advice and guidance through the whole process. We’ll also keep you up to date with the progress of your registration and send you reminders of important tax deadlines. We’ll keep in touch throughout.
