MTD for Income Tax: Quarterly Updates
We keep your digital records in order and send your quarterly updates and final declaration to HMRC, so you can meet your Making Tax Digital obligations with less effort.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, handled for you
Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax changes how many sole traders and landlords report to HMRC. You keep digital records and send quarterly updates through compatible software, and you still finalise your tax after the year end through that software.
Whether and when MTD applies to you depends on your income and HMRC’s timetable. We confirm your position, then take care of the records and submissions so you can focus on your business or properties.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your income from self-employment and property and on HMRC’s timetable. We will check your position and tell you when, or whether, you need to join.
In some cases spreadsheets can be used with compatible bridging software. We will recommend the approach that suits your records.
Late quarterly updates can lead to penalty points under HMRC’s points-based system, and a financial penalty once you reach the points limit. The government announced at the Budget on 28 October 2026 that people who must join Making Tax Digital in April 2027 will not get penalty points for late quarterly updates in 2027/28. Measures announced at the Budget on 28 October 2026 still need Finance Bill or other legislation before they become law, and rates can change at future fiscal events.
Yes, in a new form. After the tax year you confirm your total income and finalise your tax with a final declaration, sent through MTD-compatible software. We will explain what this means for any other income you have.
It is your total income from self-employment and property before expenses (your turnover), not your profit. HMRC works it out from the tax return for an earlier tax year: for example, your 2025/26 return decides whether you need to join from April 2027. Other income, such as a salary, dividends, pensions or your share of partnership profits, does not count towards the threshold. We work it out for you.
Yes. HMRC writes to people it expects to join, but it is still your responsibility to check. We can check for you on your call.
Fees are agreed in advance, after your Discovery & Scoping Call, based on the scope of work. You will receive a written proposal before any work starts.
